New Policy Opens Path for Underage Players to Compete at Higher Levels
Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association is pleased to introduce a new Exceptional Rep Player Tryout Request Policy, designed to offer select players the opportunity to try out for a higher age category (U11-U18) in the upcoming season.
This policy supports the long-term development of players who demonstrate exceptional skill levels and are ready to be challenged in a more competitive environment. It provides a clear framework for underage players to request a move to a higher division strictly for rep hockey purposes.
Eligibility Highlights:
Only players in their second year of eligibility in their current division may apply.
Applications must include:
A one-page parent letter justifying the request.
A one-page reference letter from the player’s previous season head coach.
The completed application form.
The deadline to submit all materials is August 10th, 2025 to CMHA President Lee McCaw at president@chilliwackminorhockey.com.
Players may only move one age group up, and exceptional status applies only for the current season.
Evaluation Criteria:
Players must rank in the top 50% of their new tryout group after Phase 1.
In Phase 2, they must again be in the top 50% of the A2 pool or higher.
Players who do not meet these criteria will be returned to their appropriate age division immediately.
Once committed to the higher division, players must complete the process and will not be allowed to revert back unless required by CMHA evaluators.
